Three problems might cause CSK to struggle in IPL 2023.

Ravindra Jadeja was named CSK’s captain before to the start of the Indian Premier League 2022, which led to many rumours and assumptions on MS Dhoni’s participation in the tournament. To put an end to all of the rumours, he not only played the entirety of the season, but he also took over as the captain of the team from Jadeja, who was visibly having trouble coping with the pressure of being the captain, and it was showing in his performance as well.

Batting for the Pedestrian Powerplay

Due to the fact that Ruturaj Gaikwad did not have the same kind of performance that he did in IPL 2021, the responsibility of scoring quickfire runs in the powerplay fell on Devon Conway. Devon Conway is the type of player who normally needs some time to get comfortable before he starts hitting the ball.

Throughout the course of the season, CSK was either getting off to a poor start or adopting a defensive attitude in order to reduce the number of wickets they lost during that period. Because of this, their strike rate was just 117, which increased the amount of pressure that was placed on the middle-order batsmen to step up their game.

batting concerns related to death-overs

CSK was one of those teams who had a lot of trouble scoring runs when they batted between 17 and 20 innings. In point of fact, their death-over strike rate of 10.34 was the second-worst in the all of the competition. The death overs batting had been completed and was finished off due to the fact that MS Dhoni was nearing the end of his career and Jadeja was feeling the strain from his spell as captain. Although Shivam Dube shown flashes of brilliance and flare, on the whole, he wasn’t very reliable. If they want to be able to take home the trophy this time, they have a lot of work to do to fix this problem throughout this season.

Bowling problems caused by death overs

Deepak Chahar is given the opportunity to swing the ball in both directions and create havoc for the batsmen when he is used in powerplays by CSK, particularly when Dhoni is at the helm of the team.

However, during the previous season Chahar was not allowed to participate in any of the tournaments, which significantly hindered their power bowling. As a result, they averaged 8.10 runs per season while conceding runs. It is possible that the problem will be rectified when he returns this season. But there is one problem that even Deepak is unable to overcome, and that is their death-over bowling, which has been their weak spot for a significant amount of time.

In that period, they had the second-worst economy of the whole season, which serves as an illustration of the problem on a bigger scale.
