Alberto Moleiro has emerged as a talked-about figure in Spanish football recently, following his rapid breakthrough at Las Palmas.
An attacking midfielder by trade, the 19-year-old has racked up 65 competitive appearances for Las Palmas since making his breakthrough last season. His five assists this season has been critical in helping his team remain on top of La Liga Smartbank table so far.
Moleiro’s performances have not gone unnoticed, with Real Madrid among the clubs interested in his services. Barcelona, too, have been linked with a move for the young playmaker, whose current deal at Las Palmas expires in 2026.
But according to AS, the Spanish giants are set to face stiff competition in the race to sign Moleiro, as Aston Villa, too, are considering a move for the Spaniard.
The club’s new coach Unai Emery is well aware of the 19-year-old’s rapid growth in Spain and wants to incorporate him as part of his team in the current January transfer window. Aston Villa’s interest in Moleiro comes amid rumours swirling around Philippe Coutinho’s future.
Reports suggest Aston Villa are considering selling the Brazilian, who joined from Barcelona on a permanent deal last summer. Coutinho’s exit from Aston Villa could pave the way for the club to sign Alberto Moleiro, who primarily likes to feature in the number ten position.
Luring the teenage prospect away from Villa Park could be a costly affair, though, with the player having a release clause worth €30 million. The figure could rise up to €60 million if Las Palmas get promoted to La Liga by the end of the season.
Therefore, interested parties such as Aston Villa and even Real Madrid might look to snap up Moleiro in the ongoing January window rather than paying the extra fortune in the summer.
