Jofra Chioke Archer is an English cricketer who was born in Barbados and plays for England and Sussex. He bowls fast with his right arm. Archer was chosen to represent England in limited-overs matches against Pakistan and Ireland in April 2019.
He made his England debut in May 2019 and was a member of the England team that won the Cricket World Cup in 2019. Later that summer, he made his Test debut against Australia in the 2019 Ashes series. Archer was selected as one of the Wisden Cricketers of the Year in April 2020.
Jofra Archer has been signed by Mumbai Indians Cape Town as their wild card for the upcoming SA20 tournament. The speedster from England, who plays for Mumbai Indians in the Indian Premier League (IPL), has also joined Cape Town, a team owned by the same group.
The six franchises have the opportunity to sign a wild card cricketer for their teams, according to Cricket South Africa (CSA). The deadline for teams to sign Proteas or international players who were not registered for the auction is December 30.
According to SA20.co.za, League Commissioner Graeme Smith addressed the move, saying:
“The wild card gives our teams a chance to acquire yet another player of the highest caliber. For the auction, the cricket community showed a lot of interest in our League. I have no doubt that six outstanding cricketers will join the SA20.“
The upcoming tournament, which will begin on January 10, will feature six teams: SunRisers Eastern Cape, Mumbai Indians Cape Town, Pretoria Capitals, Paarl Royals, Johannesburg Super Kings, and Durban Super Giants.
Jofra Archer has not played competitive cricket since 2021
Since July of 2021, when he played for Sussex in the T20 Blast, Jofra Archer has not participated in any competitive cricket. The 27-year-old star of England’s World Cup victory in 2019 has not worn the national anthem since March 2021.
However, in a three-day warm-up match against the Test squad, the right-arm speedster hit Zak Crawley on the head with a sharp bounce, making him appear threatening.
The speedster was unable to attend the Ashes series in Australia or two Twenty20 World Cups in 2021 and 2022.
Beauran Hendricks, Delano Potgieter, Dewald Brevis, Duan Jansen, George Linde, Grant Roelofsen, Kagiso Rabada, Liam Livingstone, Odean Smith, Olly Stone, Rashid Khan, Rassie van der Dussen, Ryan Rickleton, Sam Curran, Waqar Salamkheil, Wesley Marshall, and Ziyad Abrahams had previously been signed by Mumbai Indians Cape Town.
Hashim Amla will be the team’s batting coach, Simon Katich will be their head coach, and James Pamment will be their fielding coach.
