Real Madrid want to renew two midfielders and sign England international next summer

Real Madrid are said to be working on renewing both Toni Kroos and Luka Modric’s contracts while also looking at the possibility of signing a new midfielder in the summer, reports MARCA.

Kroos and Modric’s ongoing deal with Real Madrid is set to expire at the end of the season. It must be remembered that the Croatian signed a one-year extension back in June this year which was, in fact, the second year in a row that he put pen to paper on a one-year deal.

As for Kroos, at just 32 years of age, those sitting in the Madrid offices expect him to continue for a considerable time. The player, however, has been extremely clear about the idea that he does not want to play for long.

Ahead of the Sevilla game in October, manager Carlo Ancelotti admitted that the team is working on a new contract for the German and expects him to accept it.

“I’ve talked to him, he’s very calm. He’s going to think about it after the World Cup, in January or February. I think he’s going to continue,” he was quoted as saying.

Kroos is and will be an undisputed figure at Real Madrid even next season. The only issue is if the Los Blancos sign a new midfielder, someone between Kroos and Modric will have to sacrifice the time for the new blood.

Speaking in the context, the midfielder Real Madrid are looking at is Borussia Dortmund’s Jude Bellingham. Dortmund understand that retaining the England midfielder will be next to impossible next summer thanks to the interest he has generated around the continent.

This probably means whoever bids the most will get their man and everyone expects the amount to go over €100 million. So if Real are to go big, they won’t splash the buck for a player who would come in as an understudy.

On the contrary, not only the player but also the club would want him to take charge right from the beginning. And with Aurelien Tchouameni now assured of his spot, someone between Kroos and Modric will have to slowly be phased out, provided they sign the new deals.

For now, any talks regarding the duo’s extension will happen after the FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Until then, expect the management to go about the proceedings as usual.
