Real Madrid ‘like’ Portuguese forward with 16 goal contributions this season – report

Despite the insistence of manager Carlo Ancelotti that he is happy with his current Real Madrid squad, reports suggest that the Italian remains keen on adding a new forward to his ranks. And one of the names touted as a potential target is AC Milan and Portugal forward Rafael Leao.

Indeed, MARCA is reporting that Real Madrid ‘like’ Leao, although the Spanish capital giants have not made any moves for him as of yet.

The 23-year-old has grown leaps and bounds at San Siro over the past couple of years and has emerged as one of the most important cogs in the wheel for Stefano Pioli. Leao played a key role in Milan’s Serie A title triumph last season and has continued his good vein of form this term too.

Indeed, the Portuguese attacker, who has primarily played on the left wing for Milan but can play through the middle, has already netted seven goals and set up nine more for his teammates in 20 matches.

Leao has 16 goal involvements in 1481 minutes in all competitions this season, meaning he has contributed with a goal or an assist every 92 minutes.

Given his form and proven pedigree, it is not hard to understand why Leao has admirers in Real Madrid.

The Merengues could need to reinforce their frontline in the near future as Eden Hazard’s time seems to be running out while Mariano Diaz is unlikely to remain at the club for much longer.

A player of Leao’s ability, thus, could be an effective addition at the Santiago Bernabeu as he could compete with Vinicius Junior on the left flank or provide cover for Karim Benzema in the No. 9 slot.

His contract with Milan expires in 2024 but there have been reports of a new deal being in the works. It remains to be seen if Real Madrid’s interest in the Portuguese international leads to anything substantial.
